Buick To Add More GS Models To Its Lineup?

With the world of performance vehicles ever changing, it is easy to not exactly think of Buick as a top tier choice in this segment with many of its models favoring technology, luxury, and quietness over conquering apexes and 0 to 60 sprints. With reports of a possible Grand National/GNX revival still existing in a fog of uncertainty, the brand may indeed add more GS models to the lineup if a report from the folks at Car & Driver is proven accurate. Volkswagen Unveils CrossBlue Coupe Concept

Volkswagen has taken the veil off the CrossBlue Concept Coupe which will make its official debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show next week and serve as the latest chapter in the CrossBlue show car lineup.

The latest in the series of CrossBlue concept vehicles that Volkswagen has unveiled over DB2013AU00602the past few years, the CrossBlue Coupe is a compelling glimpse into the production version which is expected to join its sibling the three row CrossBlue SUV in production in an attempt to perhaps duplicate the successful marketing strategy that Hyundai has used for its Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport models.

The exterior styling of the CrossBlue Coupe concept shares many of the familiar horizontal and 2D esque styling cues that the company has used over the years, but Volkswagen stylists have added some character to this concept by giving it several 3D inspired touches. These include the new LED lighting scheme which flows seamlessly into the grille area as well as new creases and character lines. A set of 22-inch rims gives the concept a purposeful stance, while the sloping C-pillar steals a page from the Porsche Cayenne SUV and looks as good here as it does on the fore-mentioned Porsche.  The concept also rides on Volkswagen’s MQB architecture which first made its debut on the Mk7 Golf and allows the concept to have a length of 192.5 inches which is about the size of the current generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and is also on par with many potential rivals in its class.

Performance for the CrossBlue Coupe concept comes from a V6 which is mated to a specially designed plug-in hybrid system, which allows both systems to achieve a combined 415 horsepower and a stout 516 lb-ft of torque. In addition to this potent performance, Volkswagen also states that this combo allows the concept to make the 0 to 60 sprint in 5.8 seconds before hitting a final top speed of 147 mph while still delivering an DB2013AU00614impressive 70 MPGe with some of that figure accomplished by an all electric mode which allows the CrossBlue Coupe to go up to 13 miles at speeds up to 75 mph. Volkswagen claims that the CrossBlue Coupe can be equipped with four and six cylinder power plants if needed, which when combined with its production spec interior, reveal that the company is serious about giving the concept the official go ahead form production.

While this blend of performance and efficiency is impressive, the CrossBlue Coupe’s party piece is its all-wheel drive system which utilizes a special “propshaft by wire” system which allows the concept to tackle light trails, as well as other small obstacles despite being designed for mainly on-road driving. When the concept is switched into “Off Road” mode, the gasoline engines power serves two key roles with much of the power going to the front wheels while the rest of it powers a special front axle motor. This electric motor then sends its juice to the rear mounted motor which allows the concept to achieve all-wheel drive capability even when its battery supply is depleted. This system is a neat and novel solution and we here at Autoinfoquest would love to see this feature fitted to a production model sometime in the near future.

Stay tuned to Autoinfoquest for the latest developments on the CrossBlue coupe concept as well as any details regarding a production version.

Legacy Concept Showcases Styling Future For Subaru’s Mid-Size Entry

In addition to the debut of the 2015 Subaru WRX, the company has also revealed the LEGACY CONCEPT show car which provides a compelling sneak peek into the styling direction that will be adopted by the next generation Legacy model when it makes its official debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show next week.

The exterior styling of the concept borrows a whole host of styling cues from the company’s revolutionary VIZIV concept which is expected to be a key styling influence in many of Subaru’s upcoming models. In the case of the Legacy, a bold and prominent hexagonal Legacy Concept rear on highgrille, sleek character lines, and the specially designed “hawk eyed” head and tail lights highlight the car’s VIZIV derived origins, and makes us forget about the current generation’s bland exterior styling especially when paired with its specially designed Ocean Silver Metallic paint scheme. Subaru claims that the tail lights of this concept were designed to “enhance the solidity of the overall design” which makes sense when the concept is viewed from some angles.

The coupe like roof line in particular is the concept’s best visual feature, and shares its origins with the WRX concept, while a set of 21-inch wheels rounds out the package and according to Subaru, serve as a subtle hint to the Symmetrical all-wheel drive system that will be offered on the car as standard equipment . While no photographs of the LEGACY CONCEPT’s interior were released, expect much of the overall layout and basic design theme to be carried over to the production version of the Legacy which should not only please buyers that think the car’s current cabin is too staid for their tastes, but also stand out from contenders such as the Kia Optima, Ford Fusion, and the recently updated Chevrolet Malibu.

Look for more information and photographs to be slowly revealed prior to its formal debut in LA next week, and stay tuned to Autoinfoquest for the latest developments on the LEGACY CONCEPT as they become available.

Chevrolet Teases Revived Colorado Pickup Ahead Of LA Debut

Chevrolet has officially revealed that its upcoming 2015 Colorado mid-size pickup will make its long awaited debut later this month at the 2013 LA Auto Show where it will share the stage alongside its big brother the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado full sized pickup truck.

While the full onslaught of details will not be revealed until November 20th, the company did boldly state that this latest chapter of the Colorado will be the “most capable, most versatile, and technologically advanced midsized pickup truck in the marketplace. Those very words could not be said for the previous generation Colorado which featured a duo of uninspired inline engines, questionable interior design, and limited capability during its time in production though the addition of the 5.3 liter small block V8 later in its tenure, did address the lack of performance to a degree. Expect exterior styling to vary slightly from the Colorado sold in the rest of the world, and to incorporate many of the elements and cues found on the bigger Silverado.

Performance details for the 2015 Colorado remain murky as of this writing, but look for the majority of Colorado models to come equipped with a gas burning V6 engine as standard equipment with a diesel version possibly arriving sometime after launch though no hard evidence has surfaced on whether such a power plant will indeed be offered on the Colorado.

Look for the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado to make its official debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show later this month, with production beginning sometime next year. General Motors will also be making a GMC branded version of the truck known as the Canyon, but it is unknown if that model will debut alongside the Colorado at LA, or if it will make a separate appearance at another event. Stay tuned to Autoinfoquest for the latest developments on the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado as they become available.

Subaru Previews 2015 WRX Ahead Of LA Debut

Following months of speculation and numerous spy photos shot in various parts of the world, Subaru has officially announced that the 2015 Subaru WRX will make its official debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show which is set to take place later this month.

While Subaru only released one lone teaser image in today’s announcement, it does appear to reveal that the production version will mirror much of its styling from the WRX concept car which made its initial debut at the 2013 New York Auto Show earlier this year (albeit without some of the more visually extreme elements that appeared on the concept). This is especially apparent with the front fascia where the concepts large hood scoop, aggressive character lines, and basic design theme will carry over largely intact with minimal changes. This renewed focus on aggression should help it stand out against new rivals such as the Ford Focus ST, and the redesigned Golf GTI while also allowing the car to look noticeably more serious than the current generation WRX. As a neat bonus, the car’s LED infused headlamps not only highlight the car’s performance intent, but also give the WRX a unique visual appearance during nighttime driving.

The company also did not release any official performance data for this latest WRX iteration, but look for the car to most likely follow the well traveled path forged by its predecessors and come equipped with a version of the company’s familiar turbocharged four cylinder boxer engine which should please enthusiasts and the brands legion of loyalists with its spirited performance and balanced blend of efficiency and power. Expect more information (as well as pictures) to slowly appear closer to the WRX’s official auto show debut.

Look for the 2015 Subaru WRX to make its formal debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, with the first wave of production units expected to arrive in dealer lots early next year. Stay tuned to Autoinfoquest for the latest developments on the 2015 WRX as they become available.
